{ I love discovering new artists, and even more lovely is discovering artists that are local. Michelle from Rock My Roll has some beautiful and unique mixed media works to her name, all of which come from her humble little home in Wynyard Tasmania. 

{ Mothers are so busy nurturing, they often forget to nurture themselves. Real Mantras For Real Parents gives some positive self-talk for any stressed out mama to live by.

{ I have fallen in-lady-love with this sweet blogger from New Zealand. I am probably very late to the party, but there's something about the atmosphere over at Here Comes The Sun that makes me feel all warm and cosy. Plus, Amanda is so holy-moly gorgeous!

{ The amount of times my thoughts have trailed to "What is my life purpose?" while hanging the washing or shampooing my hair is crazy. 'How to discover your life purpose in about 20 minutes' certainly caught my eye! As sceptical as you may find it, maybe it's worth a try! (I'm yet to find that 20 minutes to even attempt it, perhaps I need to look for a post titled 'How to find 20 minutes'!)

{ No matter how busy we are, having a clean house is still quite high on most mamas list of priorities. This Cleaning Calender by Pixingo sheds a little light on the never ending pile of work and creates a schedule that enables you to have a stress-free tidy and clean house almost everyday. Bliss!

{ What your child wishes you knew when he acts out. Thankyou Aha! Parenting. This article has helped me diffuse many a potential toddler meltdown lately.

{ Amanda Mocci is one of my favourite artists, so much so that her Athena design was the inspiration behind my tattoo. I am totally lusting over these iPhone cases over at Society6 and am having a seriously difficult time chosing my favourite. They are all so beautiful!

{ I've felt like giving up, and I'm sure many mamas I pass by in the street have too. It's a difficult gig. This post gives six reasons to never give up on motherhood and an insight into the bigger picture. A perfect read to clear the frenzied parents head.

{ When our toddlers decide that nap-time is no longer necessary, life gets that much harder and more stressful. Sadie, from Brambles and Honey is discovering just that. Brambles and Honey is a blog I have begun stalking recently, I'm sure you'll love it to!

{ Designer Bride is the wonder team of two lovely young ladies (both mamas!) who work as a mobile hair and make-up service in Tasmania. I was lucky enough to spend my morning being pampered by Brianna and Kirby for our maternity photoshoot. A go-to team for all your glamorous needs!

{ '10 rules to raise terrific kids', sounds simple right? Aha Parenting gives you ten positive steps that any parent can master to raising happy, healthy and respectful children. The surprising part? The biggest rule is not to live by rules.

{ What did we do before smart phones? No really, what did we do! I have a number of parenting apps on my iPhone and the latest I have downloaded is called Baby Zoe. I can't wait to start using this application to track feeding, weight gain, nappy changes and health appointments. Modern technology really is a blessing for parents.

{ Browsing Etsy treasuries is one of my guilty pleasures. I love this one titled 'That Special Day' by Eloise. It is full of the sweetest wedding details with a vintage and handmade feel.

* This would have to be one of the most beautiful, easily followed and inspiring DIY sites I have come across. Full of tutorials, inspiration and free printables; the Ellinee blog is one to admire on days you are dreaming big with paper and scissors in hand.

* Achieving family balance...sounds simple yes? But in reality, it can be incredibly challenging to balance your energies into children, a partner, yourself and a house. I love this post from Healthy Child Healthy World, giving 5 ways to achieve family balance.

* Do you love vintage fashion and collectibles? Visit 'Dress Me Retro' on Facebook and say Hi to the lovely Alison. She collects all things vintage and sells them from her humble little local business. 

* A sweet mama, Gretchen has shared her birth wishes she wrote prior to the birth of her first-born daughter. She is now expecting her second baby three weeks after we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of ours! Read her beautiful birth wishes here.

* I never before considered 'time-out' to be a harmful or negative discipline technique... but this article had me pondering my old beliefs and considering changing my tactics. I love the way it highlights that childrens behaviour is a valid symptom of feelings. What do you think?

* If you've ever had a burning question to ask another parent at the drop of the hat, you will appreciate Baby Hints and Tips as much as I do. This Facebook page is like a really big community of mothers all sharing their current concerns with babies, toddlers and children. Anyone can post a question asking for advice or looking for answers and any mama can comment giving her two cents worth. The pages admin staff do a wonderful job of always making sure the content is supportive and unbiased. It is well worth the 'Like'.

* How you and your child can be happier in 3 minutes? Yes please! Aha Parenting knocks it on the head again with a well written post of advice.

* With most older children having smart phones, there can be a possible benefit to the madness. The Morcombe family have recently launched an application for smart phones called 'Help Me'. If a child is in danger they just press a 'panic button', which automatically sends a text message to two nominated contacts with the users exact location. Rather than dwelling on the negatives of modern technology and it's effect on our children, we should be celebrating the immense successes like the launch of this app.

* This month Winter Love is sponsoring Oh Dear Drea again, I love the honesty and wit that Drea writes with. Her blog tells a tale of a single again mama, keeping it oh-so-real.

* I recently found this blog, and was taken aback with both heartbreak and sympathy. The woman behind this blog is a Mother to 7 children and has dealt with the sudden death of her eldest Son. She talks about her grief, depression and anxiety as well as the struggle of accepting that her and two of her children have a dangerous chromosomal abnormality. This is one strong mama, definitely a recommended read.

* Not just another wedding blog, Elizabeth Anne Designs is a BEAUTIFUL wedding blog. I could sit and adore for hours and hours and hours. 

* Tattoo tumblrs really take my fancy for a light read when I cant sleep or need a rest. This is the newest one I have found; We call it art.

* This Etsy store sells the most intricate, delicate and lovely Mexican paper banners and flags. I found it via a wedding related search and have fallen in love with the chandelier banner.

* This was one of my Christmas gifts from Nick, I love it. It is so very fitting!

* I have finally joined Pinterest, I am still trying to navigate it, but cant wait to start pinning some seriously pretty things. Follow me, or look at my boards (when I create some) or whatever it is that you do on Pinterest!

Mr K's Shortbread: Recipe for Success

I welcome myself back to the blog to share with you the recipe used to create our Christmas shortbread in this post.

I find this to be the most simple, clean, cheap and of course, satisfying recipe I have yet to come across.
 

MR K's SHORTBREAD

Ingredients:

500g butter
500g plain flour
200g caster sugar
2-4 tsp vanilla extract


Method:

1. Preheat fan forced oven to 180 degrees (360 fahrenheit) & line oven tray(s) with baking paper.

2. Cream softened butter and sugar with clean hands in a large mixing bowl until a thick "paste is formed. 
(I find the softness of the butter to be a crucial part of a successful recipe. Too hard (refrigerated) and it will not have the ability to be creamed with the sugar creating a lumpy and uneven texture & too soft/melted which will create an unstable and unworkable liquid. I find the best method is to slice butter into 1-2cm pieces and rest on a chopping board while measuring the other ingredients.)

3.  As palates vary, fold in the desired amount of vanilla extract to suit your liking, until combined.

4. Add the flour (unsifted is fine) and fold into the mixture until combined and evenly distributed. A ball of dough should form in the bowl once this step is complete.

5. On a floured bench, knead the dough lightly before rolling. 

6. Using a rolling pin (or anything somewhat cylindrical) roll the dough to a 50mm thickness and trim the edges, creating a large square of dough.

7. As we decided to place small squares in jars, and after getting frustrated with a knife, I found it fast and easy (and overly enjoyable) to use a pizza cutter to cut the dough to the required size.

8. Once cut, pieces were placed on trays & trays & trays and placed into the oven. Oven heat was then reduced to 150-160 degrees (celcius) 302-360 (fahrenheit).

9. Cook for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown. (I found some pieces towards the edges of trays were required to be pulled out early due to the airflow in the oven.)

10. EAT! EAT! EAT!


A fast and simple way to create a recipe for all the family to enjoy this festive season!

* I've really missed catching up on the readings of this wonder woman and her family. She raises two children, works, maintains a marriage and manages to do all whilst looking super glamorous. I finally caught up on a few months worth of posts whilst having a date with my couch yesterday afternoon.

* These dinner plates and tea-cups made me squeal over enthusiastically aloud. They are too-flippin-cute! Want, want, wantity want!

* Have you checked out Amanda Mocci illustrations yet? This is the artist that inspired my tattoo, she is one talented lady and all her illustrations inspire me. I think it is safe to say that my next tattoo may also be an Amanda Mocci masterpiece!

* I spent many an hour looking at the photos of this incredible safari themed birthday party, the work that went into this party must have been intense. Creativity at its best! I'm starting to plan for next years birthday party already!
