Things that make my eyes smile...

Description of Photo
My mood is highly dependant on the atmosphere surrounding me and I thrive on aesthetics, I try and fill every little space of our home with all the things I find beautiful. As simple as it may be, it keeps me happy; pretty things make my heart sing! These are snapshots from around our home that bring a smile to my eyes. I might even make this post a regular one, sharing with you all the loveliness.

Enjoy.

My Favourite Spaces

During a recent burst of nesting, I did a lot of re-arranging of furniture and re vamping of decor. It's a 'chore' that I love! I love personalising our home with colour, texture and handmade touches. I thought I would share with you some of my favourite little corners of the house; The girls' spaces.

Stella's room has transformed from a nursery to a room fit for a 'big girl'. It is full of tones of Scarlet, pink, chocolate and polka dots giving it a woodland feel.  There are little paper birds hiding here and there, wooden trees all about and little red coats hanging out on display. It's reminds me of a scene taken from Little Red Riding Hood. Like the storybook, come to life.

There is one blank wall still to be adorned with sweet touches that is on my to-do list, I am madly collecting ideas and inspiration and hope to finish it before Stellas sister arrives.

When she finally arrives, baby #2 will have her own comforting space in our bedroom. We are lucky enough to have a huge room so are able to fit the cot, changetable and drawers all in comfortably and without clutter. The cot we ended up deciding on, is the Stokke Sleepi. I adore the way it fits in the corner and it's rounded modern design. At the moment we have it set to the bassinet size, I can't wait to extend it and watch it grow with her through to a junior bed. It was well worth the investment, and a beautiful piece of furniture.

White, toffee and walnut are the colours we've chosen to surround our little one with.We are still to add some personalised touches to decorate her space, something we hope to do when she has a nursery of her own. Nick surprised me this week, by coming up with his own DIY creation for her space. Perhaps he is also nesting? The plaque he made is stunning, I was both pleasantly surprised and proud that he made something so pretty!

Happiness to the Eye

I snapped these photos a while ago and have been meaning to share them for quite some time. It really is the little things that bring happiness to the eye around my home. Something as simple as a brightly coloured rose just blooming or some pretty new thrifted silverware, crystal and glass.

I like to use simple and vibrant colours around our home along with plenty of black and white. Anything that reflects light such as mirrors, silver and glass seems to brighten everything and allow the sun to dance in all directions.

Interior designers have long known that room decoration affects mood. What pretty things do you surround yourself with to induce a state of calm and happiness? Is it a certain smell you like to burn? A lamp you like to have lit? Or a colour you have in abundance? The psychological effect of  your home decor truly is amazing. Who would have thought that adding a colour or moving a vase could actually improve your mood!

Strength, Wisdom and Warfare

Remember me talking about a new tattoo in the planning stages that I was very excited about? Well, Its here and ready to be shared!

I found this Amanda Mocci piece on her website and immediately fell in love with it. The artwork depicts Athena; the goddess of strength, wisdom and warfare. Strength and Wisdom are two distinct attributes that I feel I have gained over the past two years. Through turbulent times of single parenting and separation along with filtering friendships and forming relationships. The beautiful picture represents perfectly to me, who I strive to be.

After two and half hours of magnificent work by a local tattoo artist, I now have this. And I couldn't be happier with it! I am hoping to return shortly for a colour session and a further touch up and fine-tune. I have chosen natural and earthy colours to shade through the wings of the owl and the windblown hair of the girl. I cant wait to share the final finished product with you!

Beauty is blooming.

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you would know that I have been working on a secret little project for my dear friend Lauren and the Kings Meadows Florist. Lauren came to me with a colour scheme vision in her head for a display window of the florist and I have since been hard at work folding, fluffing and puffing pom poms!

Today I spent the day from a ladder, amongst beautiful flowers and florists to hang these pom poms. The result was an amazing combination of colours and an eye catching display celebrating the beauty in bloom.

Forty in total; Green, white and black pom poms. To create a window display reflective of foliage, leaves and deep green winter grass.

If you are local to Launceston, go and have a look and tell me if you love it! Also, 'like' the florists official Facebook page to see stock, products and designs by the very talented florists Liz and Lauren.

I enjoyed creating this display more than I'd anticipated, It is incredible the effect of satisfying your creative yearning can have on your mood. If I am not making, dreaming or being inspired I feel restless and frustrated. Creating really is such a therapeutic passion to me.

Lace love.

I have a thing for lace, I've always had a thing for lace. You'll find it in little corners of my home here and there. Lace doilies, lace candles, lace lampshades, lace photo frames. There is a fine line between provocative lace and nanna lace, somewhere in the middle is the lace I love. If I could adorn my entire house with the stuff without being seen as 'the weird lace' lady I would.

These are my favourite lace Etsy finds that have pleased my eyes lately...

* This lace dress is so sweet. Paired with a some neutral heels it would be the perfect cup day dress, I think the hemline needs to be a little shorter to counteract any nanna-ness that beige and lace may throw off.

* This tiny felt and lace bunting necklace may have made me squeal in delight. It's so sweet!

* Who needs a wedding! This lace garland is needed in my bedroom. Needed.

* If this isn't the most adorable thing you've ever seen, then I don't know what is. A little crochet lace mushroom stone. With this I could make sure the 'crazy lace lady' theme was carried through to Stellas nursery.

Do you have a love for lace? What colour excites you the most?
Plenty of love...the crazy lace lady,

In our element.

Yesterday, my good friend Lydia took Stella and I out to take some photos. We were rugged up ready for the bitter air. It was an indescribably beautiful day, the air was so crisp, misty rain was coming down, the smell of trees, leaves and moss was strong. There is nothing I love more than trees in winter, add Stella and I amongst trees in winter and we are in our element.

Looking at these photos make me tear up, a lump forms in my throat. They capture my life perfectly. I love the way Stella looks up at me, I love the way she reaches out to touch a leaf. Even writing this makes me cry, I can't put into words how magical life with Stella is, how much love surrounds us.

Thankyou Lyd for taking such amazing photos. Lydia hasn't had any training or done any courses at all in photography, she does such an incredible job considering! Stella's godmummy, Soph, was kind enough to edit some of them for us. I just can't stop looking at them!
