Clouds and Comforts

Description of Photo

Winter is my happy place; most who know me, know this. The season brews a feeling of excitement in me, a feeling of comfort and wonderment. Although it's still Autumn here, Winter is teasing me with sneak peaks and pretty previews...and I love it! This afternoon I was lucky enough to have some escape time (I even skipped witching hour!) and the universe aligned some of my favourite things into one beautiful wintry bundle.

I met with my dear friend Sophie, sipped hot Monk Pear tea and munched on cashews whilst watching a storm unfold. Ahhhhh, the simple pleasures!

We sat outside in the sunshine and within five minutes, a clear blue sky turned a rumbly grey. Then came the crash of hail. Not often in this small town do we experience the thrill of hail. Erratic weather, however is a norm. That's part of the reason this place will forever be my home. I love our weather.

Sophie too, shares a love for the greyest of days. It was so rejuvenating spending some simple hours 'just being' with such an inspirational friend. I always leave a date with Soph filled to the brim with motivation and bursting with creative energy. It was just what I needed to unplug the mother in me and re-charge her.

What re-charges the parent in you? Does anyone else share the same intense love for clouds, umbrellas and raindrops?
Plenty of love,

Threads and Trends

These photos are getting harder and harder to take; she rarely keeps still, doesn't want to stand on cue and more often than not has a cracker in her hand. But, we got some! (I just had to include that last photo, she is blowing kisses...adorable!)

Stella wears: Dress by Cotton on baby, tights by Pumpkin Patch, cardigan by Peter Rabbit from Myer, shoes by Pumpkin Patch.

Threads and trends

A winter trend I love? Dark fingernails. This one is called 'Rolling stone'. It makes me want to be drenched in all different shades of grey with chunky knits and patterned tights.

Winter wears

One of my favourite parts of the new season starting is going through my wardrobe and re-arranging everything so that the season appropriate items are all together and easily accessible. I pulled everything out of my wardrobe last week and layed it on the bed, I put to the back all the summery pieces that couldn't be adapted for winter and started finding all my favourite winter wears.

Pre-baby when I was working full time in a fast-paced and fashion-focused retail store I would buy a new piece of clothing every week. If I was heading out for dinner or drinks, I would buy a new cocktail dress and new shoes to match. Sometimes 3 weekends in a row. Now that I am a mother, that is not possible or justifiable so I have to be more resourceful and creative in fashion. I will need to re-wear a lot of winter items from previous years, yet somehow make them look 'in season' and not too 'motherly'.

My plan is to document my winter fashion challenges with you! As a motivator to step outside the long sleeved cardigan zone and to inspire me to be more creative. I will endeavour to post a threads and trends segment as often as I can. Feel free to contact me with your own winter fashion tips and ideas for mothers if you would be interested in having them shared here!

Happy winter fashion!

In our element.

Yesterday, my good friend Lydia took Stella and I out to take some photos. We were rugged up ready for the bitter air. It was an indescribably beautiful day, the air was so crisp, misty rain was coming down, the smell of trees, leaves and moss was strong. There is nothing I love more than trees in winter, add Stella and I amongst trees in winter and we are in our element.

Looking at these photos make me tear up, a lump forms in my throat. They capture my life perfectly. I love the way Stella looks up at me, I love the way she reaches out to touch a leaf. Even writing this makes me cry, I can't put into words how magical life with Stella is, how much love surrounds us.

Thankyou Lyd for taking such amazing photos. Lydia hasn't had any training or done any courses at all in photography, she does such an incredible job considering! Stella's godmummy, Soph, was kind enough to edit some of them for us. I just can't stop looking at them!

A day in the kitchen

Yesterday was mighty, mighty cold. I love the cold, but this was freezing! Stella and I spent the entire day in layered up pyjamas and ugh boots with the heater on. I cringe at the thought of our power bill but the cosiness and warmth is worth it. Instead of venturing out, we spent the day in the kitchen. Stella played on the floor with tins and jars or held on to the back of my legs and followed me around.

While I had the chance, I cooked up enough fruit, meat and vegetables to fill my freezer and feed Stella for over a month. I peeled and cut carrots, sweet potatoe, potatoe, butternut pumpkin. Chopped brocolli, cauliflower and beans. Stewed apples, pears and rhubarb. Made a huge mess, fogged up the windows and nibbled as I went. A day in the kitchen certainly pays off for saving time later on.
